1.

What is ACCEP?
ACCEP is the Association of Colorado Campus English Programs.  It is a group of seven ESL schools in Colorado.  All of them are on college or university campuses.  Some of them are private schools, and the others are part of the college where they are located.

2.

How do you pronounce "ACCEP"?
ACCEP is pronounced "AK-sep", similar to the word "accept".

3.    Where is Colorado?
Colorado is a state in the western part of the United States of America, in an area called the Rocky Mountain west.  Colorado is one of the 50 states in the U.S., with a population of about 4 million people.  See our MAP page for more ...

4.    Is Colorado an expensive place to live?
The cost of living in Colorado is different in different places.  For example, cities like Denver and Fort Collins have different costs for food, housing and other expenses.  In general, Colorado is cheaper than places like New York and Los Angeles, but more expensive than some other states that don't have popular cities like Denver and Boulder, or popular activities like great skiing and mountain recreation.

5.    Is Colorado a safe place to live?
Cities in Colorado are often chosen as some of the best places to live and raise a family.  Generally, Colorado is a very safe place to live.  However, there are no guarantees.  Still, you shouldn't need to consider safety if you're thinking about Colorado as a place to live and study English.

6.    What colleges and universities are in Colorado?
Colorado has many colleges and universities, plus specialty schools like art institutes, cooking schools, auto and aircraft mechanic schools, and more.

The campuses where ACCEP member ESL schools are located include:

  • Arapahoe Community College
  • Auraria Campus, with the Community College of Denver, Metropolitan State College, and the University of Colorado at Denver
  • Colorado State University
  • Johnson & Wales University
  • Red Rocks Community College
  • University of Colorado at Boulder
  • University of Denver
  • University of Northern Colorado

ULinks.com, a website that helps students find a professional school, college or university in the U.S., lists over 180 schools in Colorado!  If you go to their website and choose the "search" page, you can select Colorado to see a complete list.  Explore!

7.    What countries are your ESL students from?
Our students have come from about 100 countries all over the world!  In your classes at ACCEP member schools, you can expect to meet other adults from Europe, Asia, Africa and  South America - maybe even all in the same class!

8.    How do I apply to one of the 7 ACCEP schools?
Each ACCEP member school has its own admissions guidelines and application process.  For more information, please look at each school's website.  You can get to them with just one or two mouse clicks from our SCHOOLS pages.  Have fun visiting and comparing schools!

9.

How do I get a visa to the United States?
The ACCEP school you choose to attend will give you all the help you need in getting a visa for the United States.  If you want general information about student visas, American embassies, etc., try the US Government links on our RESOURCES page.

10.

How long will I need to study before I can enter an American university?
The answer depends on how much English you already know.  If you are a beginning student, you will usually need about a year or a little longer to become a good English speaker.

11.    How much does it cost to study English at the ACCEP schools?
Each ACCEP school has different costs for different amounts of time.  Also, prices may include housing or that may be listed separately.  For example, one school charges tuition for a 4-week term, but another school charges for a 9-week term.  Please see each school's website to learn more about study costs.

When you compare schools, please look at the length of the term (or semester), what is included, and what is extra.  You'll probably find that most of the schools charge generally similar fees.  As we say in English, "you get what you pay for".  ACCEP member schools are proud of the quality or their programs, their teachers, and their many years of success in teaching English to students from all over the world.

12.

How many students will there be in my classes?
Usually classes at ESL schools in the U.S. are smaller than college classes.  You can expect about 7-15 students in a class.  But some classes may only have 1 or 2 students, and some may have more than 15.  It also varies by school, so this is a good question to ask each school about when you contact them.

13.    What are the teachers' qualifications?
Teachers at ACCEP member schools generally have a Master's Degree in ESL or in a related field like English.  Also, most of our teachers have years of experience which includes teaching English in foreign countries.  Please check with any school you are interested in to find out more.

14.    Will your school help me to get into a college or university in the United States?
Yes, of course.  Some of our ACCEP programs are actually part of a university, such as the CU, CSU and UNC programs.  The other ACCEP schools usually have agreements with their host university, and others, that allow ESL graduates automatic admission.  Again, please check with the school you're interested in for more information.

15.    Are the ACCEP ESL programs accredited?
Yes.  All ACCEP programs are accredited.  This means that they have been approved by a recognized accrediting body that has looked at the programs against certain standards that guarantee quality.
